We will also explore the ways in which women are able to develop leadership skills and find support as they pursue positions in leadership. This session is open to anyone interested in looking to research on women in higher education leadership and how these trends affect women working in Admissions. This is not meant to be a criticism of gender inequality in Admissions. Rather, we hope to facilitate discussion about these current trends, point out any concerns and look for ways to support the role of women in higher education leadership. In a field where leadership is traditionally male dominated, exploration into the role of the female leader in Admissions is overdue, especially in an event titled “Shake it Up”.

Leadership requires that certain people move into the chaos, awkwardness, tension and unfamiliarity produced by organizations. Leadership is vital, but what exactly is it? Would you know it if it fell in your salad? Leadership is a discipline, not something you are born with. Using proper framework of seeing interrelationships rather than things, seeing patterns of change rather than static “snapshots” can give clear vision to the aspiring leader. Part 2 will be on Wednesday, 8:15-9:15am.

I’m presenting a session at the conference and am curious if there will be computers and LCD projectors available in the rooms where the workshops take place. I’m trying to decide whether or not to do a power point.

    Thanks,
    Nate

    Nate –

Sorry we didn’t see your comment before the conference! =) I know David Miller was making phone calls to session speakers, so I’m assuming he was able to touch base with you before the conference began. I trust your session was a success!
