February 10, 2007

Biola is located in La Mirada, California, on the border of Los Angeles and Orange Counties. The summer climate is usually temperate, ranging from the mid-60’s to the mid-80’s, with little rain.

As you’re preparing to arrive, we recommend monitoring the local weather to refine your expectations and help you pack. Here are two useful websites to help you do just that:

Basketball & Dodgeball

February 7, 2007

Two awesome activities are back by popular demand: 3v3 basketball and dodgeball (aka: nationball).

On Monday, June 11, from 11:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m., Chase Gymnasium will be open for the character-building schoolyard sport of dodgeball. There will not be previously designated teams, and there is no sign-up prior to the event. Simply arrive at 11:00 ready to dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge.

On Tuesday, June 12, beginning at 9:00 p.m., Chase Gymnasium will host the annual 3v3 NACCAP basketball tournament. We want everyone to have a chance to play, so please sign up as many teams per campus as you’d like! Also remember to bring any necessary knee-braces, eye goggles, or headbands. Also – be prepared to get dunked on!

Note: Other local sport-type activities include the Biola Fitness Center, pool, and track and soccer field. For those less actively-inclined, there is a nearby $1.50 movie theatre, the campus coffee shop, and shopping.

Golf Tournament

February 7, 2007

We are pleased to announce a golf tournament scheduled for Tuesday, June 12, at 1:00 p.m. at the beautiful Westridge Golf Club. Westridge is one of Orange County’s newest courses and is located just minutes from the Biola campus. The cost for participation in the golf tournament is $25.

Westridge Golf Course

Details regarding tournament format and rules are outlined below. Interested golfers should indicate their plans to participate when registering for the conference. Actual payment for the golf tournament can be included with the conference fees or paid at the conference.

Format & Rules: “Two-Man Kick and Throw Scramble”

The tournament will be played in foursomes, but for scoring purposes will be divided into two-man teams. The scramble format will be used, where each player tees off and the team determines the best shot. From the location of the best shot, each player hits again, and so forth, until the ball is in the hole. Each hole has one score per team.

Golfers may register individually or as teams. If a college registers an entire foursome, the best player of the group must be matched with the worst as one two-man team, and the two “middle” golfers of the foursome will be the other two-man team.

Kick/Throw Rule: Each team will be allowed a “kick” and a “throw” during the nine-hole tournament that will not be counted as a stroke. As with other strokes in the scramble, both players may attempt the throw or kick, but it can only be used once during the round. Example: If both players hit their ball out of bounds, a throw from where the ball landed can be aimed for the fairway so that there is no penalty stroke.

Club NACCAP: Family Feud

January 18, 2007

Welcome to Family Feud! The game and all the answers are totally based on the popular opinion of the general public, so who better to answer specific Admissions questions and trivia then the very people who take part in it every (and we do mean “every”) day.

So please answer the following questions in your own words, and send your responses to joshua.pardy@biola.edu.

Alongside the time-honored gameshow format, we will have various commercial breaks brought to us by none other than you! That’s right, we have not forgotten about the classic Club NACCAP skits which will be interspersed throughout the various feuds. So get on your thinking cap and start formulating a hilarious skit to be acted live in front the viewing audience*.

So, please take some time out of your busy schedule (don’t worry we cleared it with your directors) and answer the following questions, be as silly or as serious as you want and who knows, you may just see your answers on-screen at Family Feud: Admissions Edition!

So, without further ado…

In your own words:

  1. Name the worst chain restaurant to eat at while on the road recruiting.
  2. Name the weirdest class that you have seen on a high school transcript.
  3. Tell me the most annoying thing about admissions appointments.
  4. Tell me the most commonly asked admissions question.
  5. Tell me your favorite thing about working in the Admissions field.
  6. Name the best chain restaurant to eat at on the company dime.
  7. Name the “cushiest” place to recruit.
  8. Tell me what you think is the most challenging aspect of a homeschool student.
  9. Tell me an unrealistic parental expectation that you have encountered.
  10. Name an unusual extra-curricular activity that you have seen on an application.
  11. What is the most popular major declared amongst your incoming students?
  12. Name a popular excuse for a student’s poor academic record.
  13. What is the best method of contacting students?
  14. What is the most common major requested by students NOT offered by your school?
  15. Name the most common extra-curricular activity found on applications.

Thank you very much for taking part and lending some of your precious time in helping Biola. We hope to see you representing your school at Club NACCAP.

There is time available during Club NACCAP for light-hearted, 5-minute skits. Club NACCAP will take place on Monday, June 11, at 9:00 p.m. Contact joshua.pardy@biola.edu for details.
